The Consumer Electronics Association is preparing for a significantly larger turnout from digital health representatives at this year’s annual CES tradeshow. The show, which will be held in Las Vegas from January 7-10, is gearing up to draw the largest digital health presence it has ever attracted. According to CEA, the floor space dedicated to showcasing digital health innovations has been increased by 40 percent since last year. The added room will be filled by the 65 digital health exhibitors attending this years show.

In addition to the increase in floor space, the CEA is also announcing a digital health innovation contest called the Everyday Health Awards for Innovation that will culminate during CES 2014. The contest is looking to showcase technology across six different health IT subsectors:

Patient Diagnostics and Management – This category is soliciting doctor-patient communication portals, point of care apps for physicians, remote patient monitoring tools, telehealth systems, and 3D printing solutions that address healthcare problems.

The Healthy Consumer – The Healthy Consumer category is judging patient focused fitness and health solutions, such as activity trackers, fitness apps, genetics testing solutions, nutrition and weight management apps and solutions, and wearables of all kinds.

Emerging Tech – Emerging technologies will include new cancer screening technologies, new user interface designs like eye-tracking, gestures, and glasses, and progressive sensor applications like sensors built into clothing.

Inclusive Innovations – The Inclusive Innovations category will showcase fall prevention and detection, medication management systems, gamfication technologies, assistive technologies, and cognitive fitness solutions.

Student Innovations – The Student Innovations category is soliciting any technology within the scope of the contest, so long as it is submitted by a student actively enrolled in high school or college.

The Healthiest Company – The Healthiest Company award is evaluating wellness strategies being designed or marketed to the employee wellness market.

Developers have until December 20 to submit their applications, and by December 23 three finalists from each category will be announced. Online voting will run through the new year until the trade show kicks off on January 7th and on January 9th. Winners do not receive a cash prize, but all finalists receive complementary passes to the show, and winners will be announced on stage at the final awards ceremony.
