San Francisco-based AliveCor announces that Dan Sullivan is its new president and CEO.

AliveCor was made famous by Eric Topol, MD’s public media demonstrations of the device on NBC’s Rock Center and Colbert Report. He used the device to diagnose afib in a passenger aboard his returning flight from HIMSS. The story became a media sensation, resulting in mixed reactions.

Sullivan comes from SuperDimension Inc, which developed a tool used to diagnose pulmonary conditions. That company was recently sold to Covidien for $300 million.

“Dan’s unique entrepreneurial background in building several companies to market leadership makes him the ideal CEO to lead AliveCor as we move to global commercialization.”  – G. Steven Burrill, Chairman of AliveCor

The FDA has cleared AliveCor as a heart monitor for iOS devices.
