Madison, WI-based Asthmapolis raises $5 million in a Series A funding round led by investing firm Social+Capital Partnership. Asthmapolis teaches people about their environmental asthma triggers.

A sensor attached to an asthma inhaler track its usage and a mobile app displays the trends to the user. The information is also used to deliver personalized feedback through texts, e-mail, and even calls to help patients manage their disease.

“No one offers an automated, comprehensive disease management platform like we do – combining sensors, apps, analytics and personalized services for patients – and we’re the only ones to date that have FDA clearance for this type of solution.” – CEO and cofounder David van Sickle, PhD.

Asthmapolis claims to have helped its users achieve an extra 20,000 asthma-free days since its 2010 formation. The company will use the new funding to hire engineers, design specialists, and asthma educators in an effort to develop new services to offer to the more than 50 million American adults suffering from asthma.
