AT&T Designing an mHealth App For Autism

AT&T is calling for mHealth experts to help build an mHealth app that will be able to provide assistance for individuals with autism. AT&T kicked off the initiative at their “Hacking Autism” hackathon which was held in San Francisco last Friday. The goal of the event was to generate as many ideas as possible for the mHealth app.

AT&T has received more than 200 submissions of additional app ideas from users posting ideas to the Facebook page for Autism Speaks. The app will address four primary categories: adult, school aged, verbal, and nonverbal.

Andy Shih, PhD, VP of Autism Speaks, has called mHealth an important opportunity that the organization has been actively exploring for a number of years. The ability to crowd source ideas from patients and patients family members was also an important aspect of the company’s strategy.
