Planning for Cloud in Healthcare

I was in Fargo this week for the third time in several months. It’s a cool place and I enjoy it. I haven’t been in winter, but the warmer months are pleasant.

I was there as a part of the Intelligent Insites Build Conference. It was an awesome event, held at the historic Fargo theater. While at the other end of the spectrum from HIMSS in terms of conference size, the attendees were great and I felt like the content was valuable. I’m already looking forward to next year.

News for the Week of 9/19/14

More EHRs jump on the HealthKit bandwagon as athenahealth and Cerner announce plans for HealthKit integration for patient mobile apps. Of course there’s a pesky bug in HealthKit that is delaying this launch and several others. With all of this HealthKit news, I’m wondering if CIOs across the country are getting inundated with questions about when their orgs are going to do a HealthKit integration.

News for the Week of 9/19/14

A new Deloitte survey of physicians finds that nine out of 10 are interested in using mobile tools. Despite those physicians thinking that mobile health tools have clinical value, only 38 percent feel that mobile health has potential value in patient adherence and monitoring vs. 60 percent of consumers that want to use mobile health tools.

News for the Week of 9/12/14

Wellframe raises $8.5 million Series A. Wellframe was interesting to me when I first heard about it. I think they’ve been heads down with early customers and product, and I assume now are looking to scale. Wellframe offers a care management platform that helps patients follow evidence-based guidelines and connects them with care team members more easily. I’ve met the Wellframe team and was impressed.

Apple’s Lack of Focus on Healthcare

On the heels of announcing HealthKit (with Mayo and Epic as partners) and with the launch of its first wearable device, most of us thought Apple would make a splash into healthcare this week. As Lt. Dan covered, the Apple announcement fell short of what most people expected to hear about Apple and healthcare.

I heard from several people about work they were doing related to HealthKit integration. Most people, like us at Catalyze, were planning on a big week in healthcare for Apple and wanted to take advantage of the press. There was a lot of that, but it was mostly about how disappointed people are that Apple didn’t announce anything big.
