BlackBerry 10 Begins Carrier Trials

In what has been a long and problematic development cycle, BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion announces that BlackBerry 10 is officially out of development and is now beginning carrier tests in 50 global markets.

BlackBerry 10 will be the first RIM product release since the highly publicized resignation of co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Douglas Fregin in January, and 30 percent staff cuts in June. The company originally promised its client base that BlackBerry 10 would be released by the end of 2012, but revised that goal in June (coincidence?) to a release date of Q1 2013.

RIM stock closed up 4.69 percent on the day at $7.93, but is down 45.34 percent YTD.
