Boston University files patent infringement lawsuits against several mobile device manufacturers over what it alleges is an illegal use of semiconductor technology that is used in many popular models including: iPhone, iPad, Kindle, Galaxy Tab 2, and Chromebook laptops.

Two patents are involved in the lawsuit. One describes an inexpensive and compact solid-state semiconductor, the other describes the manufacturing process used to create this semiconductor. Both patents were issued to a professor working on behalf of BU in the late 1990s or early 2000s.

In the complaint filed against Apple this past week, BU seeks an injunction banning the sale of iPhones and iPads. It is also requests restitution of earnings on the sale of iPhones and iPads over the past few years.
