Calif.-based analytics company Archimedes announces a collaborative effort that it will undertake with CMS and HHS to gain access to years of CMS claims data. Archimedes’ analytics software will allow researchers to analyze and query the de-identified data to develop new protocols and help accelerate evidence-based care.

CMS has packaged de-identified patient data from 2008-2010 in a data set it calls the Medicare Data Entrepreneurs’ Synthetic Public Use File, or DE-SnyPUF.

"HHS is committed to furthering the power of data and we have entered into this important collaboration to help maximize the availability and use of the Medical DE-SynPUF dataset," – Bryan Sivak, HHS chief technology officer.

Archimedes will use the data with its population health and data modeling software to allow researchers to understand the rates of outcomes for various populations based on condition, age, or medication use.
