DoD To Develop Personalized Wellness Plans

The Department of Defense announces a new initiative aimed at combining information within the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), its EHR system, and information collected from an online health assessment to generate a downloadable wellness plan that the DoD says it hopes will act as a preventative tool in the effort to maintain physical health and reduce the prevalence of chronic conditions among members of the military.

The “Well-Being Plans” will be delivered to the service members as well as integrated into the medical record for the assigned primary care team to review. The care plans will be evidence-based, preventative in nature, and will include risk assessment data based on individual health risks and past medical history.

Initial project plans include feasibility testing in the later part of 2013 and a general release of the system in 2014.
