Fraden Corp Receives Patent for Smartphone-Enabled Thermometer

Fraden Corporation, a San Diego-based medical technology firm, announces that its prototype for a smartphone-enabled infrared thermometer has been approved for patent and is available for licensing by qualifying companies with a “significant presence in the mobile smartphone market.”

The technology behind the patent calls for smartphone manufacturers to add an on-board infrared lens, which is positioned within any standard smartphone camera, to provide the option of thermal imaging that can then accurately measure body temperature.

Quickly becoming the digital Swiss Army Knife, embedding a touch-free thermometer in every smartphone certainly does open up an array of possibilities to those working in the public health sector.

Here is hoping that this patent, unlike most, is used for good, rather than evil.
