Rolls Out Population Health Platform For Utah’s Behavioral Health Hospitals Looks Beyond Behavioral Health, Announces New Partnerships announces that it has entered into a partnership with the Association of Utah Community Health to bring its population health tools to behavioral health clinicians working in some of Utah’s most remote and impoverished regions. The new project, called Utah SmartCare, is a state-wide effort to improve care for high-cost patients with serious mental illnesses. has developed an mHealth app that passively monitors cell phone use throughout the day, tracking the number of calls placed, texts sent and received, and general daily activity levels. The app uses this information to generate a baseline of the patient’s normal daily activities, both social and physical. With a baseline established, then monitors the patient over time and alerts mental health clinicians if the patient becomes socially withdrawn or notably less active – both early sings of depression.

Now, is rolling the platform out across Utah through a partnership with five of the states behavioral health facilities, with each facility piloting the system in a slightly different way. Wasatch Mental Health Hospital is using the app to monitor the status of patients in its acute care unit, while Weber Human Services is rolling it out for case managers who are incorporating it into an existing outreach program.

“Up until this point, we haven’t had the technology to effectively measure how patients are feeling outside of a care setting. Now that this remote data is more readily available, we are integrating it with the existing healthcare system and using it to deliver the sort of personalized outreach that improves care for patients and drives down costs, both of which substantially benefit the entire system.” – Dr. Anmol Madan, Co-Founder and CEO of

This makes for a busy Autumn for, as the good news in Utah is coming right on the heels of agreements reached with UC San Francisco, Partners HealthCare, Duke University, UC Davis, and University of Nebraska Medical Center, who will all use to support their research efforts.
