Hackovate Health, a global health innovation competition, concludes at it’s Finale event in Kansas City this week with the announcement of four winning business ideas. The event was organized and hosted by H&R Block, a sign that just about anyone with money can jump in the ring and take a crack at fixing healthcare.

The winner was eLuminate Health, also from Kansas City, MO, who took home a first-place prize of $15,000. eLuminate is an online cost transparency platform where patients can search for surgeons based on procedure and sort by both cost and quality.

International entrant GetHealth, of Dublin, Ireland, was the second place winner, taking home $5,000. GetHealth is a mobile app that encourages users to “check in” to different health activities, similar to Foursquare.

InAssist Health Management Solutions, of Torrence, CA, brought in $1,500 at third place. InAssist helps patients understand medical bills and facilitates payment between patients and hospitals.

SHHADE (Supply Home Health Care Alternatives and Dedicated Education), which focuses on remote patient monitoring and health coaching earned the peoples choice award, though did not take home any actual cash from the event.

Judges included representatives from H&R Block, Cerner, Google Fiber, and Sandbox.
