Jawbone continues its mobile health buying spree by acquiring Pittsburgh, PA-based fitness tracker competitor BodyMedia, which is also reported to hold multi-sensor body tracking patents. Analysts are questioning the $100 million valuation.

The fitness trackers of both companies will continue to be market. Jawbone could leverage the more sophisticated technology in BodyMedia’s tracker to introduce a revamped Jawbone Up to the marketplace.

Jawbone will absorb BodyMedia’s 60 employees, including CEO Christine Robins.

  • From what I understand, BodyMedia products offer sensors for tracking sleep patterns and are perceived as more durable than the Jawbone Up fitness tracker.
