John Kenagy, PhD., CIO of Legacy Health System in Portland, OR, says his organization has earned two bonus awards from Epic. Legacy, which has 275 employees in its IT department and operates six hospitals and two dozen clinics in the Portland area, earned a $456,000 “good installation” bonus. Kenagy said this will help offset the $2.5 million cost of the installation.

In addition, he says Epic awarded the organization a $209,000 bonus for maintenance. He said the funds will be used to offset the $300,000 the organization spends to send its employees to Wisconsin for training.

Kenagy, speaking at the HIMSS Southern California annual CIO conference, said his organization uses all of the Epic modules with the exception of laboratory IS. Legacy was a “model build” for Epic’s cardiology module, now called Cupid. Legacy is also implementing Epic’s hospice care module.
