Proteus Digital Health, a Redwood City, Cali-based startup announces the closing of its Series F financing round that netted the company $62.5 million, raising its total to $170 million since its 2001 formation. The round was led by Oracle, Otsuka, Novartis, and Sino Portfolio.

Proteus is working on digital medicines, a combination of an ingestible pill and a body-worn patch that captures medication-taking information and physiologic data such as heart rate, activity levels, and sleep patterns. A Bluetooth-connected smartphone app receives information from the patch, providing the user with information about their health and the effects of their medications.

The ingestible pill received FDA clearance as a medical device in July 2012, while the patch was approved by the FDA in April 2010.
