New Remote Patient Monitoring Study Questions ROI and Efficacy

A new study released by Spyglass Consulting presents the opinions of more than 100 healthcare leaders from home health agencies, community hospitals, multi-hospital networks, government agencies, and payers involved with telehealth projects.

The study found that remote patient monitoring solutions are poised for strong growth, primarily due to new Medicare penalties that are pushing hospitals to improve 30-day readmission rates. Accountable Care Organizations are also driving growth as health systems begin to take financial ownership of long-term disease management.

While growth projections remain strong, the study raised some concern over the current offerings available in the market. Fifty-eight percent of respondents expressed concern about a lack of integration between remote patient monitoring solutions and existing clinical information systems. In addition, 50 percent of respondents questioned the clinical efficacy and anticipated ROI of their remote patient monitoring solutions.
