Startup CognitiveScale closes $21.8 million in Series B financing from Norwest Venture Partners and Intel Capital. CongnitiveScale offers an industry-specific machine intelligence software. The financing will be used to build its portfolio of could-based cognitive computing products.

Digital Health startup iBeat secures $1.5 million in an oversubscribed seed round of funding. The company is currently building a smartwatch that perpetually monitors and analyses the wearers heart activity 24 hours per day. In the case of a life-threatening emergency. iBeat will instantly alert the user, their loved ones, and emergency responders in real time. The company was founded by former Practice Fusion founder Ryan Howard.

Fitbit announces Adam Pellegrini will be joining the company as Vice President of Digital Health on September 6. Pellegrini was previously the Vice President of Digital Health at Walgreens Boots Alliance.
