That’s a quote from Dartmouth epidemiologist and family physician Ethan Berke in an article about the importance of geographic information in health, both at the population and individual level. It’s a nice piece of marketing for Asthmapolis, which has done a great job at becoming the poster child for geomedicine.

Environment plays such an essential role in health and we’ll see more applications of geomedicine, especially with more data being mined out of social networks like Twitter. Analyzing these big data sets to create interventions will be the next step.

There are of course privacy concerns about linking health information and location, but there are privacy concerns about everything in health so why should location be any different? Asthmapolis allows users to define levels of sharing.
