Retrofit Nets $8 Million in Investment Funding

Retrofit, a weight loss startup, nets $8 million in new funding provided by VC firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Retrofit combines various mHealth strategies including: the popular digital pedometer FitBit,  a WiFi connected scale, and Skype clinical consultations to deliver a remote weight loss regimen modeled after far more expensive resort wellness programs.

At $249 per month, Retrofit is still a significant investment for most of the public. In return for the hefty price tag, patients are assured that they will lose 10 percent of their body weight incrementally over over one year.

Retrofit does indeed boast better than average weight loss success scores, perhaps due to the science behind the program, but perhaps due to the fact that for $249 a month the people signing up are those that were serious to begin with.

The $8 million will be used to add staff in sales and software development.
