San Diego-based Sense4Baby, a startup focused on developing a portable wireless heart rate monitor for women with high-risk pregnancies, announces that it has raised $4 million in funding from the West Health Investment Fund.

The goal of Sense4Baby is to reduce healthcare costs by allowing doctors to monitor at-risk mothers while they remain at home or in lower cost outpatient clinics. The company claims that the transition of care to lower-cost areas for this patient population could reduce overall healthcare costs by more than $1 billion annually.

Sense4Baby is a graduate of the West Health Institute, a non-profit health accelerator based in San Diego.
