Add to the growing library of FDA approved medical apps the Sway Balance App. Sway Medical, the company behind the app, exited stealth mode this week when it announced both that it had received FDA clearance for its flagship balance app, and that it had closed a $750k Series A round. The funding round was led by individual angel investors. With the addition of the new capital, Sway has now raised a total of $1.325 million in funding.

Sway Balance is a diagnostic tool designed to help doctors, nurses, and physical therapists evaluate balance in patients. The current method for measuring balance is conducted through a subjective paper and pencil test. With Sway, Athletes hold smartphone against their chest and perform balance movements directed by the app, a clinically accurate balance assessment is then displayed.

Balance is used to help diagnose a number of serious conditions, one being concussion. Sway is targeting this use-case for its flagship product, marketing it as a sideline resource for clinicians evaluating injured players as they come off the field.  To help position the technology appropriately, Sway has partnered with ImPACT applications, an industry leader in the field of digital concussion evaluation solutions. ImPACT will provide Sway the customer base and distribution channels to bring its technology to market faster and more cost effectively.
