The University of Maryland announces the winners of its national contest to create a mobile health app that leverages information exchange standards this week during the opening ceremony of the university’s three-day nursing informatics conference. The conference was sponsored by the Office of the National Coordinator, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Kaiser Permanente, and the American Nurses Association.

The winner of the contest was MobileHealthWare’s WoundMapPUMP app, short for Pressure Ulcer Management Program. It helps clinicians evaluate wounds and track changes over time.

WoundMap follows a five-step wound management plan that walks users through the process of capturing an image, measuring the wound, assessing the wound, reviewing the documentation, and then transmitting the information through a HIPAA-compliant secure connection to another clinician or directly to the EHR.
