University of Texas Pilots Patient Controlled Digital Medical Records

7-10-2013 5-20-00 PM

The University of Texas at Austin is partnering with Jericho Systems to pilot a program that will explore advanced patient control of shared medical records. The pilot stems from initiatives and goals published by the ONC’s workgroup for standards and interoperability. ONC will contribute logistical support and guidance. Findings will be taken into consideration as ONC drafts its final standards and interoperability guidelines.

The focus of the program is to provide consumers with a way to review how often their PHI is requested over the eHealth Exchange, who requested it, and to determine if their consent directives are being followed.

A standards-based best practice will be published that describes the approach, the results, and technical recommendations. The technology developed during the pilot may be scaled to service all patients on the eHealth Exchange.
