VA Announces Across the Board Expansion of Telehealth

Following seven years of quantified cost savings and stable patient satisfaction scores, the VA announces across the board expansion of existing telehealth programs aimed at improving care and quality of life for remote veterans, reducing cost and improving outcomes.

The VA has reported a 30 percent decrease in bed days of care, a savings of $1,900 per patient annually, stable patient satisfaction scores, and sustainment of the improved metrics since the program’s inception in 2005.

Video consults, home health monitoring, and chronic disease management are specifically targeted for expansion. Last year the VA connected with 486,000 veterans via telehealth. That number is expected to double in 2013.
