Cleveland, OH-based Movable announces a $1.9 million seed round led by a group of angel investors including Ray Shealy of RelayHealth and Joseph Laguardia of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Wellpoint, and Kaiser Permanente.

Serial entrepreneur Blake Squires founded Movable in September 2011 following the launch of two earlier non-healthcare startups. Working in the corporate wellness and population health sectors, Squires has created a social fitness platform that facilitates community fitness goals and supports group fundraising efforts. For example, a corporate office could set a goal of walking 1000 miles in 10 days across its entire employee base, or a kickball team could set a similar goal, and then use the platform to solicit sponsors to raise funds for new uniforms or equipment. The goals are all fitness oriented and communal in nature.

Users then report their progress online or wear a Movable activity tracker. The platform integrates the results of all participants to show aggregate progress toward completion of the goal.

“The simplicity and viral nature of the tools and program that we offer drive high engagement levels and create a widespread cultural change organically. With every move, we are educating individuals on the impact activity can have on their health and performance, while at the same time providing groups – companies and schools – with critical data and insights into their population activity and inactivity.” – Blake Squires, Founder and CEO of Movable

As the ink dries on this funding round, Movable is already talking about a Series A offering that will be announced in the coming weeks.
